I hope that everyone had an easy time setting up the blog page on their computer. When do we want to blog? I am available every Tuesday from 5:00 to 9:00, except on holidays, full moons, or any other related superstitious event.
Hello! If I do this successfully a second time, I will be so happy! We need to have our conversation on Tuesday at an earlier time. What suggestions do you have? S
Sheila, Did Pat call or email you? She emailed me and said she was going to see her Dad in OH. I don't know when she's planning on returning. Maybe Kristin knows.
Pat did email and is with her Dad. Let's keep her in our thoughts and prayers. Many thanks to Chris for helping us through this process. It took me awhile but with his patience I was successful. Thanks to Claire for initiating the process.
Hello Everyone! Ok, I have a gmail address now. I am ready to do this! I guess you didn't expect me to be early, now did you? I am in time for the conversation tomorrow night. Before that time, I will enjoy my day of research and study completely.
Chris, I have tried to connect as a follower, yet I am told that they cannot detect a feed. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong. I have typed the URL that is posted on the paper http://pascocohorts108.blogspot.com Help me out. Thank you.
4:00 works for me. I'm so glad that I decided to check in. I am totally disgusted to find out how many of you people wake up before 10:00am on your on accord...and then you have the nerve to start blogging! Don't you know what it means to be lazy and irresponsible?
Jen, I am also working on paper. I'm having a little trouble organizing it, though. I think that I am trying to write the Term III before I ever write the Literature review. How are you organizing your paper? Maybe just a general idea of your table of contents? Are you going literature piece by literature piece? or do you have a different method?
Hey Jesse! I had to leave for awhile! I'm starting with a little reflection, did a quote on my topic, then gave some personal examples and then went into some of my students and am giving examples. Next I'll be talking about some research and continuously going back and forth between what I'm seeing with my students. Does that help at all?
Are we all writing comments? I'm not sure how quickly and in what order our responses will be published. I don't want to determine the conversation. I hope you are all well!
Yes, Jenn, that actually does help. Like I said before, I think I was trying to put in ALL together and have answers already. It definitely helps to have your take on it. Thanks.
Today when Kristin and I got together and just sat and wrote, we felt like we were doing term 3 also, but I hope that when we get to that point, it will be a continuation of what I'm saying now. What do you think?
if you subscribed to the blog with the email link below the "post a comment" box, turn the volume up on your speakers and you will hear a beep...that means someone has posted a new comment....that means time to refresh the page
I don't think Miss Kristin is on yet. Sheila, did you hear from Pat? She is still in Ohio. I told her I'd let you know if she didn't. Her dad is on life support, being monitored for the next--well probably down to 24 hours now--and things do look very grim.
ok, I see. This will be like on of our class discussions-all over the place-ha ha. I like where Jen seems to be going. It may sound like some term 3, but that may be ok and if not can always be edited.
How does one organize it all? That is a very good question...Kristen, you had a file cabinet for your resources. Are you tying it all together now, but on the literature side yet, not the way it is working in the classroom?
I almost feel like it will just be added on at this point, if my though process is the same then. My term one doesn't seem to really fit in. My thoughts about my research have changed so much since then.
I get that it plays in to the term 3 paper. Just like pieces of our term 1 paper will be used now. My problem was that I was already trying to fine-tune organize it rather than just writing about my findings so far. Too much finality that I'm not ready for, I guess.
I am in the IM mood, so if I am writing a lot, forgive me......I have deleted comments now a number of times. Not to overkill an often heard term, but are we talking about being an "Agent of Change" in our classroom? Our research then should lead and guide us in how we can be that in our own selected special field?
Jessie, I wasn't writing about my findings in terms of summarizing my readings. I was utilizing the readings and was planning on tying them directly into what I'm seeing in class. Does that make any sense? What do you mean about fine-tuning your organization?
The thoughts on your lit reflection may not be organized in quite the way your final paper will be. You are in process, so don't think of the final product.
Sheila--sorry to be the deliverer of bad news. Jenn D.--outline sounds fantastic if you can organize yourself like that. I'm still trying to get my thought process in order. It just seems like things are flowing in the direction I said. Helen--I've talked more than anyone! Yes, the research I am doing directly relates, makes me question and makes me try new things in my class. How about you?
I was able to meet with a team at my school that uses the responsive approach that I am reasearching. I thought it would be a good to put their experiences in the paper as well as, the literature I read about it. Jenn D.
I'm doing well. Thanks for asking Jenn G. Unfortunately, my research has been limited, but I'm happy to see everyone is starting to find their overall path. I think the questions we have are part of the learning themselves.
Jessie--I want a badge! Very jealous now! Where's our friend Danna? Steve--are you still trying to incorporate your research about Abby? How is that part working?
I've decided to leave Abby out of the research picture. I looked forward and felt that I may come up against some difficulties because of it's personal nature. I'm back to my original idea. Motivation. I'm thinking of looking into motivation and the learning disabled.
ok you all need to slow down, i'm trying to catch up in the last 30 minutes.... i have the geek squad at my house. as for the paper....i don't think i'm doing it right, now that I hear what you are saying
Helen, look for the 2 arrows that look like they are circling each other, it might be by the http address. It took me a little time to locate it on my computer.
Any of the students in the ESE population I have in my coteach class. It seems that they have lost hope after years of failure. No particular disability. You sound like you're doing very well. WOuld you mind sharing your topic?
Before I go and come back...Is anyone out there doing brain-research? I find it fascinating AND very helpful for working with those ESE students, and every other struggling student. All brains can be trained, or so they say, but making the right connection is the trick!
My organization thus far...I started with some childhood experiences that talk about my personality. I started with this because it ties in directly to who I am as a teacher. This brought me to my original question and philosophies on education and learning. After 2 pages of personal stuff, I started into my research which shaped my newest, latest and greatest research question. I also talk about how my perspectives have changed through my research. It seems to be flowing nicely so far. Is that what you wanted, Jenn G?
I'm here and have hit a wall with my paper...it's on Asperger's Syndrome and was going to focus on why Dr.s aren't diagnosing it correctly but that didn't work...I don't know how to incorporate my reading about Asperger's into a topic...help!!!
I feel like I know how to set up my paper. Reasearch findings, jornal entries and examples of how I am using my topic in the classroom. My problem is putting it in sentences that make sense and convey what I am trying to say.
All--can we write the name of whom we are writing back in response to. I wasn't at first and got confused, but now that I am it's making more sense, esp. since we have so many ADHD students!
Kristin--yes my dear! That's a wonderful explanation! I think Sheila is trying to hint at the one statement you said in regards to tying it all into why you are researching your topic and how it makes you the teacher you are today.
Jude--did you try writing down questions that you are asking yourself? When I did that, question after question--just letting it flow like Helen--and then came back to read it later, I found a little focus. Then, my thoughts changed and I did it again and I became a little more narrowed. Don't know if that helps!
I think that most papers will naturally start with the personal connection. That is the driving force of the research and a good place to start, whether it's childhood experiences or teaching experiences.
All--here's my current problem. My personal experiences that I'm tying in now don't seem to be the same ones from my term one paper. Sheila, how much of the term one paper do we have to tie in?
I want to write on why so many kids are being misdiagnosed when they actually have Asperger's...I have tied in my experiences with my son but it's starting to sound like a research paper on Asperger's, not a literature review
Jenn D--I know what you mean about trying to convey what you are saying and make it make sense. When I started writing, I didn't know where I was going to fit in what I was saying. I would pick a section and just start writing. You don't always have to start at the beginning and write straight through to the end!
Sheila...can you help me? I'm sounding like a research paper on Asperger's...I want to prove that the behaviors my kids display are tied together under the Asperger's umbrella...how do I do that without sounding like a research paper?
Jude--sounds like you have to find a transition from your personal experiences with your son, which is including research, a detour as Kristin and I made it today, to your teaching. I'm sure you can find it inside yourself to know how your experiences made you who you are as a teacher today. Make sure you go back to last week's notes about what a literature review looks like for us!
It's funny you said that. I am starting in the middle because most of my paper is about the reading have have currently done. Those are the ones that are the freshest in my mind. I figured I could write the beginning later and discuss how I got to that point. I figured the middle was the hardest part and why not start there.
Jude, maybe the problem lies in the fact that you want to prove something. That's a tough challenge. Turn the word prove into the word research or investigate...just a thought
Okay folks. It's apparent that God doesn't want me to blog today. My battery light is now red which can't be good. Sheila, you might as well give me a D for the day. I'm a failure! I know, I know...I should have been prepared for class with my power cord at home. Better make that an F.
Good thinking Jenn G...thanks...I forgot to look back into answering those questions...Sheila...I have written about my students and self as it relates to Asperger's but I don't know how to tie my readings into what I'm writing (except for Asperger's diagnosis info)
Way to go Dana! You and your stupid 325 pages! Jen D., I also started with the middle of my paper and the research. It was easy to go back and add an intro and talk about my personal experiences in regards to my question. Funny.
I am chunking (I mean stringing together w/ a theme) what I have read about along with what I have done in the classroom, including what I have seen because of it (from my students)....
It's interesting what each of us feels we are lacking in. I have included a tie to my personal history and how it brought be to my topic. I have a great deal of research material. However, I had been forgetting to tie it back into what I'm observing in my classroom, which now seems like the most obvious piece of the puzzle.
Steve mentioned Human Behavior as a good source for reading. Where are the rest of you finding literature? Are you reading your discipline professional journals, like Social Studies Teacher, or ASCD?
I have found a wealth of information through an organization called Environmental Literacy in America. Also, the journal of environmental education. Found them through NLU library website.
Sheila--I'm using books we've looked at, and some we haven't looked at yet, from class, as well as a series of books that pertain to my topic--writing. I also found a fancy LFS book that pertains to my topic--kind of a best practices book. Our schools have all the LFS books that we don't have in our posession--just found that out. Internet sites also lead to more reliable sources I think.
Jude-each discipline, math-science-ss-spec ed-and so on, publish journals for the classroom teacher. Your media center at school is required to have a section on professional development and these should be there. They are online as well. ASCD is Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and is the premier organization for practice and research in all classrooms. They are online.
Dana, I just read a blurb about retention and social promotion written by Patricia Cunningham and Richard Allington. It's in a book called Classrooms That Work. I keep finding things for you! You're special.
When you find an interesting article or book, searching out more by the same author is a great idea. Also, see who that particular author is citing and follow that lead as well. It's a neverending journey of research fun.
okay...If I can create a better classroom community, then it will increase the motivation of my students in regards to producing better quality work...
Sheila--the if, then statement in which Steve is referring to--is this how you want our research question to be formatted or is it just to help form our question?

ReplyDeleteJennifer D.
Hello all!
ReplyDeletei'm here...
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteI'm here...
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm on and raring to go.
ReplyDeleteLet's get it on.
ReplyDeleteHey Jesse! I had to leave for awhile! I'm starting with a little reflection, did a quote on my topic, then gave some personal examples and then went into some of my students and am giving examples. Next I'll be talking about some research and continuously going back and forth between what I'm seeing with my students. Does that help at all?
ReplyDeleteOops! Spelled Jessie wrong!
ReplyDeleteDid anyone else come to any organizational thoughts or conclusions?
ReplyDeleteHey Chris, I think I'm on the wrong page. I keep having to hit refresh to see the new comments...
ReplyDeleteAre we all writing comments? I'm not sure how quickly and in what order our responses will be published. I don't want to determine the conversation. I hope you are all well!
ReplyDeleteHello, I'm here
ReplyDeleteNo, you are on the right page....you need to hit refresh to see the new comments
ReplyDeleteI had to hit reload current page to see the other comments also--same as refresh. The ones I write are instant though.
ReplyDeleteYes, Jenn, that actually does help. Like I said before, I think I was trying to put in ALL together and have answers already. It definitely helps to have your take on it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI think our responses are published to all just like you see them on your screen. I think we're all seeing the same exact thing.
ReplyDeleteKristin had a different approach. Where are you Kristin? Share your organization!
ReplyDeleteToday when Kristin and I got together and just sat and wrote, we felt like we were doing term 3 also, but I hope that when we get to that point, it will be a continuation of what I'm saying now. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteYes, Kristin, do share.
ReplyDeleteHello All. It is good to be in class from my own home.
ReplyDeleteif you subscribed to the blog with the email link below the "post a comment" box, turn the volume up on your speakers and you will hear a beep...that means someone has posted a new comment....that means time to refresh the page
ReplyDeleteWell, it is kinda term three in a way, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteYou're going to incorporate this paper in some form or another into your final project, right?
I don't think Miss Kristin is on yet. Sheila, did you hear from Pat? She is still in Ohio. I told her I'd let you know if she didn't. Her dad is on life support, being monitored for the next--well probably down to 24 hours now--and things do look very grim.
ReplyDeleteok, I see. This will be like on of our class discussions-all over the place-ha ha. I like where Jen seems to be going. It may sound like some term 3, but that may be ok and if not can always be edited.
ReplyDeleteHow does one organize it all? That is a very good question...Kristen, you had a file cabinet for your resources. Are you tying it all together now, but on the literature side yet, not the way it is working in the classroom?
ReplyDeleteI almost feel like it will just be added on at this point, if my though process is the same then. My term one doesn't seem to really fit in. My thoughts about my research have changed so much since then.
ReplyDeleteHelen, if you go back up to 4:07, I shared how my paper is flowing at this point.
ReplyDeleteI get that it plays in to the term 3 paper. Just like pieces of our term 1 paper will be used now. My problem was that I was already trying to fine-tune organize it rather than just writing about my findings so far. Too much finality that I'm not ready for, I guess.
ReplyDeleteJenn, I have not hear from Pat since the other day. This is a tough thing to go through and you can never be prepared.
ReplyDeleteI started my paper by doing an outline, and it has helped me to focus a little more on what I need to write.
ReplyDeleteJenn D.
I am in the IM mood, so if I am writing a lot, forgive me......I have deleted comments now a number of times.
ReplyDeleteNot to overkill an often heard term, but are we talking about being an "Agent of Change" in our classroom? Our research then should lead and guide us in how we can be that in our own selected special field?
Jessie, I wasn't writing about my findings in terms of summarizing my readings. I was utilizing the readings and was planning on tying them directly into what I'm seeing in class. Does that make any sense? What do you mean about fine-tuning your organization?
ReplyDeleteThe thoughts on your lit reflection may not be organized in quite the way your final paper will be. You are in process, so don't think of the final product.
ReplyDeleteJessie's a change agent. I've seen her badge.
ReplyDeleteJust a note, the comments will be archived weekly
ReplyDeleteGood point Helen. Feel free to write in stream of consciousness.
ReplyDeleteSheila--sorry to be the deliverer of bad news.
ReplyDeleteJenn D.--outline sounds fantastic if you can organize yourself like that. I'm still trying to get my thought process in order. It just seems like things are flowing in the direction I said.
Helen--I've talked more than anyone! Yes, the research I am doing directly relates, makes me question and makes me try new things in my class. How about you?
Steve-you are one funny guy! How are you coming along?
ReplyDeleteI was able to meet with a team at my school that uses the responsive approach that I am reasearching. I thought it would be a good to put their experiences in the paper as well as, the literature I read about it.
ReplyDeleteJenn D.
I'm here! My hair appointment ran late but at least I'll be more aesthetically pleasing to you all in class now.
ReplyDeleteoh..I am having a bad hair day now...
ReplyDeleteJenn D--that's awesome.
ReplyDeleteKristin--check the previous messages. We've been talking about you! I'm glad you'll be even more beautiful!
Chris--are you wearing a hat again?
ReplyDeleteMy computer is being VERY slow. I'm working off pirated internet right now...might loose my connection.
ReplyDeleteI don't like to brag but...
ReplyDeleteit's true, I do have a badge!
I'm doing well. Thanks for asking Jenn G.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, my research has been limited, but I'm happy to see everyone is starting to find their overall path. I think the questions we have are part of the learning themselves.
Helen, are you hitting refresh? I want you talking!
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of fact yes....Go Bulls
ReplyDeleteJessie--I want a badge! Very jealous now! Where's our friend Danna?
ReplyDeleteSteve--are you still trying to incorporate your research about Abby? How is that part working?
Wow, don't really know what to say. I can see that things have been all over the place!
ReplyDeleteGuys, I'm finally on and reading comments...lost password...surprise
ReplyDeleteI don't know where refresh is...I am very frustrated...but what is new? I went for a beer!
ReplyDeleteKristin--that's my fault. Just like in class. Share your organization so far!
ReplyDeleteHelen--on my computer I have a blue icon that looks like a recycle shape. It says reload page so that's my refresh button!
ReplyDeleteJude--talk to me. How far are you now on your paper?
ReplyDeleteI've decided to leave Abby out of the research picture. I looked forward and felt that I may come up against some difficulties because of it's personal nature. I'm back to my original idea. Motivation. I'm thinking of looking into motivation and the learning disabled.
ReplyDeleteok you all need to slow down, i'm trying to catch up in the last 30 minutes.... i have the geek squad at my house. as for the paper....i don't think i'm doing it right, now that I hear what you are saying
ReplyDeleteHelen, look for the 2 arrows that look like they are circling each other, it might be by the http address. It took me a little time to locate it on my computer.
ReplyDeleteHelen, it is on the top next to the back buttons and the stop button....move your cursor over the icons and they will get a note as to what they are
ReplyDeleteFrom my readings, I'm finding that motivation is just too broad of a topic.
ReplyDeleteSteve--understood. Any particular learning disability you're looking into?
ReplyDeleteBy "the geek squad" do you mean your husband or the computer people? OH SNAP!!! And I can ask her this because I know her husband. :)
ReplyDeletethink about what you want to motivate your students to do....is it reading more, being more responsible, respectful etc....
ReplyDeleteAny of the students in the ESE population I have in my coteach class. It seems that they have lost hope after years of failure. No particular disability. You sound like you're doing very well. WOuld you mind sharing your topic?
ReplyDeleteDanna--geek squad? I don't think there's a right way for the paper! What are you thinking? I want to hear different ways!!!
ReplyDeletegeek squad believe it or not, (sheila's favorite song)it's for out TV
ReplyDeleteI am going to Claire's. I will be right back. I need professional help...at least I finally recognize it, right? Talk soon!
ReplyDeleteoh and i guess i was of no help to you with your paper...thanks for making me feel like i was wanted. will you do my paper
ReplyDeleteSteve--don't forget to look into that Human Development book. In the Topic Guide on page xiv it lists all the motivation articles.
ReplyDeleteRemember your objective for the paper.
ReplyDeleteBefore I go and come back...Is anyone out there doing brain-research? I find it fascinating AND very helpful for working with those ESE students, and every other struggling student. All brains can be trained, or so they say, but making the right connection is the trick!

ReplyDeleteAll--can we write the name of whom we are writing back in response to. I wasn't at first and got confused, but now that I am it's making more sense, esp. since we have so many ADHD students!
ReplyDeleteJenn G I was answering your question but am writing to all who can offer help...Numb in New Port Richey
ReplyDeleteHelen, I have some GREAT books for brain research if you're interested! I too find it fascinating.
ReplyDeleteJenn G, yes I've looked at the Human Development book. As a matter of fact I pulled it out last class during our group meeting.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great resource.
Kristin--yes my dear! That's a wonderful explanation! I think Sheila is trying to hint at the one statement you said in regards to tying it all into why you are researching your topic and how it makes you the teacher you are today.
ReplyDeleteKristin, I'd like to research your brain
ReplyDeleteonce again kristin you are a real gem....i forgot about bringing in my childhood experiences to get me started on my paper. good call, thanx
ReplyDeleteJude--did you try writing down questions that you are asking yourself? When I did that, question after question--just letting it flow like Helen--and then came back to read it later, I found a little focus. Then, my thoughts changed and I did it again and I became a little more narrowed. Don't know if that helps!
ReplyDeleteI think that most papers will naturally start with the personal connection. That is the driving force of the research and a good place to start, whether it's childhood experiences or teaching experiences.
ReplyDeleteAll--here's my current problem. My personal experiences that I'm tying in now don't seem to be the same ones from my term one paper. Sheila, how much of the term one paper do we have to tie in?
ReplyDeleteI want to write on why so many kids are being misdiagnosed when they actually have Asperger's...I have tied in my experiences with my son but it's starting to sound like a research paper on Asperger's, not a literature review
ReplyDeleteSO frustrated! I loose my internet connection every time I hit refresh. Dana, how bout sending the geek squad over to my house?
ReplyDeleteJenn...I like your thoughts about questions...thanks
ReplyDeleteJenn-None if they are not relevant to your current goal.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering where our pirating princess was
ReplyDeleteJenn D--I know what you mean about trying to convey what you are saying and make it make sense. When I started writing, I didn't know where I was going to fit in what I was saying. I would pick a section and just start writing. You don't always have to start at the beginning and write straight through to the end!
ReplyDeleteJudes, Don't worry, I haven't left you my dear!
ReplyDeleteYes, as I have been looking back through my Term 1 paper I have found very little that seems applicable to my literature review/Term 2 paper.
ReplyDeleteSheila...can you help me? I'm sounding like a research paper on Asperger's...I want to prove that the behaviors my kids display are tied together under the Asperger's umbrella...how do I do that without sounding like a research paper?
ReplyDeletePut yourself and your classroom and students into your content.
ReplyDeleteJude--sounds like you have to find a transition from your personal experiences with your son, which is including research, a detour as Kristin and I made it today, to your teaching. I'm sure you can find it inside yourself to know how your experiences made you who you are as a teacher today. Make sure you go back to last week's notes about what a literature review looks like for us!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny you said that. I am starting in the middle because most of my paper is about the reading have have currently done. Those are the ones that are the freshest in my mind. I figured I could write the beginning later and discuss how I got to that point. I figured the middle was the hardest part and why not start there.
ReplyDeleteJude, maybe the problem lies in the fact that you want to prove something. That's a tough challenge. Turn the word prove into the word research or investigate...just a thought
ReplyDeleteJude--do what Sheila says. I ramble!
ReplyDeleteOkay folks. It's apparent that God doesn't want me to blog today. My battery light is now red which can't be good. Sheila, you might as well give me a D for the day. I'm a failure! I know, I know...I should have been prepared for class with my power cord at home. Better make that an F.
ReplyDeleteGood thinking Jenn G...thanks...I forgot to look back into answering those questions...Sheila...I have written about my students and self as it relates to Asperger's but I don't know how to tie my readings into what I'm writing (except for Asperger's diagnosis info)
ReplyDeleteKristin, you can help Danna with her 325 pages.
ReplyDeletei know we're just focusing on the rough draft right now, but about how long do you think this paper should be.
ReplyDeleteSteve..wisdom is leaking out of you today...thank you my own personal Yoda...very good advice
ReplyDeleteI'd like to hear from the rest of you. What is being said is so "on point" and better than I say it.
ReplyDeleteI'm taking it all in...
ReplyDeleteJenn g...you gave very good advice thanks...Kristen, we will miss your quick fingers tapping out intelligent comments
ReplyDeleteWay to go Dana! You and your stupid 325 pages!
ReplyDeleteJen D., I also started with the middle of my paper and the research. It was easy to go back and add an intro and talk about my personal experiences in regards to my question. Funny.
I am chunking (I mean stringing together w/ a theme) what I have read about along with what I have done in the classroom, including what I have seen because of it (from my students)....
ReplyDeleteDanna--I think we should let Claire answer that one. Claire?
ReplyDeleteI'm back...I kicked myself off the computer
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting what each of us feels we are lacking in. I have included a tie to my personal history and how it brought be to my topic. I have a great deal of research material. However, I had been forgetting to tie it back into what I'm observing in my classroom, which now seems like the most obvious piece of the puzzle.
ReplyDeletemy topic is based on retaining kids or social promotion and what is best for the students....should i be able to answer this question at this time?
ReplyDeleteSteve mentioned Human Behavior as a good source for reading. Where are the rest of you finding literature? Are you reading your discipline professional journals, like Social Studies Teacher, or ASCD?

ReplyDeletemy topic is based on retaining kids or social promotion and what is best for the students....should i be able to answer this question at this time?
ReplyDeleteDanna--I don't think we're supposed to ever be able to answer our question!

ReplyDeleteSheila, what are those books you're talking about? My sources are research books from libraries, journal, and seminar articles
ReplyDeleteI have found a wealth of information through an organization called Environmental Literacy in America. Also, the journal of environmental education. Found them through NLU library website.
ReplyDeleteI read 4 books. Not on Purpose, but one book led me to gain information, which then had me read the next book and so on.
ReplyDeleteSheila--I'm using books we've looked at, and some we haven't looked at yet, from class, as well as a series of books that pertain to my topic--writing. I also found a fancy LFS book that pertains to my topic--kind of a best practices book. Our schools have all the LFS books that we don't have in our posession--just found that out. Internet sites also lead to more reliable sources I think.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the "If, then" part of it.
ReplyDeleteCan someone give me an example of an If,then
statement?
Jude--I don't know what books Sheila is talking about either. I just didn't want to say it first!
ReplyDeleteSteve-Good question. I am having a problem with the same thing. I know my topicng a hard time developing my question.
ReplyDeleteI am reading about math and how to assess math. I found the articles at USF.
ReplyDeleteSteve, If I have a Margerita, Then I'll feel better
ReplyDeleteJude-each discipline, math-science-ss-spec ed-and so on, publish journals for the classroom teacher. Your media center at school is required to have a section on professional development and these should be there. They are online as well. ASCD is Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and is the premier organization for practice and research in all classrooms. They are online.
ReplyDeleteDana, I just read a blurb about retention and social promotion written by Patricia Cunningham and Richard Allington. It's in a book called Classrooms That Work. I keep finding things for you! You're special.
ReplyDeletePlease forgive my typing!!!
ReplyDeleteAllington is a great source.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sheila...welcome back Kristin (buttercup)
ReplyDeletekristin is this one of our books for class or is this one of your own books
ReplyDeleteWhen you find an interesting article or book, searching out more by the same author is a great idea. Also, see who that particular author is citing and follow that lead as well.
ReplyDeleteIt's a neverending journey of research fun.
Sheila, since I used such a great source, maybe you can bump me up to a C for the day or cut my paper down to 250 pages.
ReplyDeleteJude, a marguerita sounds great. Isn't Claire supposed to put together a Latin party for us to ease us of all our woes?
ReplyDeleteSteve, Ole...
ReplyDeleteKristin-you're down to 300 now! I like Steve's idea! Where are we now, in this idea sharing process?
ReplyDeleteif, then statement.....If you walk outside when it is raining, then you may get wet....
ReplyDeleteIf you blog, then you may be more confused than when you began! No, just kidding, this has all been very helpful and comforting.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Chris. But that just keeps me dry. How about a sample from an educational research paper?
ReplyDeleteAll--does anyone have access to a scanner? I want to include some samples of student work and I would like them to be colored.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that at first I was a bit worried about this blog thing. But the ideas and insights have motivated me greatly.
ReplyDeleteokay...If I can create a better classroom community, then it will increase the motivation of my students in regards to producing better quality work...
ReplyDeleteSheila--the if, then statement in which Steve is referring to--is this how you want our research question to be formatted or is it just to help form our question?
