To begin my dialogue tonight I want to apologize for leaving early on Saturday. In my stupidity, I thought I locked my keys in the car, only to learn that I had left them in the on position and had to have AAA jump my battery. This led to the warning to drive the car home and not turn it off.
You were all doing well and i knew you didn't need me, but I would have liked to have stayed around.
yes, Jesse and all it off in the post. Thank you for leading the long session on Saturday. I do know what you took on, or were forced into. You did a great job and they wanted more. Maybe my advertising scared some off, but if they were focused on other things, that's ok.
Did Chris ever talk to you, Sheila about next week? He was going to ask you last Saturday if we could have dinner at his school again since Morgan is in a play there that night...he wanted to ask you if we could have class at his school again and see Morgan in her play that night
With communication between the groups. We were frustrated and started to plan the session and they were doing the same thing. Thinking back, we should have gotten phones #'s and called each other or blogged.
Miss class! Oh how could we? What I am interested in is supporting the completion of your papers and hearing about your independent study. I don't want to miss Morgan's play. Of course I know how much you all want to be in our traditional class!!!
I made it! Pat and I were on the wrong one--the one Danna accessed earlier! Then my computer froze and I had to start again. Just read comments. Caught up. Where's the agenda?
Sheila, you had mentioned before that you maybe have a sample title page? Is that possible to get my hands on so I know I'm setting it up correctly? Also, does it matter where our Term I and II responses are? Should they be in the beginning or end?
I froze again. Pat's still having trouble. It won't accept her account even though she's reset it a couple of times. I'm just glad Saturday is over. How long is the play?
Jen G, you need to come join me at Starbucks. My internet's not working either and I feel like a looser all alone. I look like I'm in a chat room or something.
Kristin--my internet is actually working fine; it's this web page. I've had to restart twice. I'm sick as a dog and staying in bed, otherwise I'd come join you. You should call Pat and tell her to come there. She's not having success!

Also Sheila, Chris said that he thought there were some changes to what the master Marie wanted on the front? compared to what you previously told us. Is this true?
There is a header that Marie wants when you send her your paper. i will go out to the car and get it. Don't mind that I have not been able to walk for two days, anything for my babies!!
My reference to Master was for Marie! The front meaning the cover of the paper. My mind is fried. I think Jude wiped her bite germs all over me. Yes, I want to know about the numbered pages as well. Keep asking Jen and we might find out!
oops, she wrote it on the bottom of my program and it is not in my car. I will email her tomorrow and get it. It's so she can keep track of your paper when you email it to her. I am sorry.
Jennifer - once you have the paper completed - go to header and footer and put the required info in the header (Last name & Page number) then go to document & under the layout tab - you can select different 1st page header - no header will appear on page 1
Keep your title pages separate from the body of your paper and insert them after the numbering. Right now, I am more concerned about the content of your work.
that can be done - you can wrap text around pictures by going to the format menu for that particular picture - it can be shown in class in a few minutes as well
Sheila, From my term II paper, you had said to only use two different fonts. I used three. Is it ok to do a handwriting font for journal entries or should I just italicize it?
OK How are you handling the analysis of your data? Are you communicating what you have learned, how you learned it, and what message it has for other teachers?
When you put your data into charts/tables, Marie made a suggestion to really walk your reader through it as if they cannot read the table for yourself. She told me not to assume the reader would understand. Make it very clear.
Sheila, my data is in checklist form (determining the likelihood of Asperger's) I don't plan on graphing it...I'm analyzing it and trying techniques to work with the boys whether or not they are diagnosed
I like pie charts the best but bar graphs work well for some types of data - you can put the info in Excel and then create two charts, then pick the best one
Que paso?

ReplyDeleteI have found myself!
ReplyDeletehello?
ReplyDeleteHi! I am on. Sheila
ReplyDeleteHi! I;m in. Sheila
ReplyDeleteJust checking.
ReplyDeleteI'm on I think
ReplyDeleteI'm ready to roll! Actually, I'll be back and ready to roll at 6:00.
ReplyDeleteI think I am on.
ReplyDeleteTo begin my dialogue tonight I want to apologize for leaving early on Saturday. I'm on.
ReplyDeletei think i'm on...
ReplyDeletehello
ReplyDeleteI'm just glad Saturday is over!
ReplyDeleteME TOO.
ReplyDeleteSheila, did you get my email about my IRRB papers?
ReplyDeleteno one really cares about your IRRB papers. you should have done them right the first time
ReplyDeleteyes, Jesse and all it off in the post. Thank you for leading the long session on Saturday. I do know what you took on, or were forced into. You did a great job and they wanted more. Maybe my advertising scared some off, but if they were focused on other things, that's ok.
ReplyDeleteHi all
ReplyDeleteMaybe they were waiting for People magazine to show up
ReplyDeleteKristen is on her way...her internet has failed at home and she's headed to Starbucks to drink away her sorrows
ReplyDeleteLet's do an agenda. What do you want to talk about?
ReplyDeleteThe paper.
ReplyDeleteI would like some good APA resources. Too late for a book. Any good websites other than Son of Citation?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! How about a short debrief of Saturday?
ReplyDeleteJess, Kristen has an extra writers handbook she can loan you next week...will that work?
ReplyDeleteWhat exactly do you want turned in with our article submissions? Just our submission? Communication with the editors?
ReplyDeleteSaturday....I think it went really well, even if some people didn't participate. Our group really pulled it together.
ReplyDeleteI'm on phone with Kristen right now
ReplyDeleteYes. That would be great. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIs Claire having trouble getting on???
ReplyDeleteHas anyone heard from Claire or Helen? Chris and Linda said they would be late from picking up Morgan, I think.
ReplyDeleteKristen just got there and she's trying to log on
ReplyDeleteIs everybody on, except maybe the Brantley's?
ReplyDeleteI think Saturday went well too. The other group was having the same issues. I am glad they all turned out to be nice. Where's Jen G. and Pat.
ReplyDeleteNo Claire. No Helen. No Jen G. No Pat.
ReplyDeleteDid Chris ever talk to you, Sheila about next week? He was going to ask you last Saturday if we could have dinner at his school again since Morgan is in a play there that night...he wanted to ask you if we could have class at his school again and see Morgan in her play that night
ReplyDeleteJen D. what kind of issues?
ReplyDeleteI think that was May 12th.
ReplyDeleteIf all agree, I am for seeing M in the school play on the 12th.
ReplyDeleteWith communication between the groups. We were frustrated and started to plan the session and they were doing the same thing. Thinking back, we should have gotten phones #'s and called each other or blogged.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Jennifer.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like a very nice thing to support Chris, Linda and Morgan this way
ReplyDeleteNext Tuesday sounds good. 5pm?
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I made it! Hallelujah, praise Jesus! I would go back and catch up on the conversation but then I'll miss the rest.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's next Tuesday, I think it's the following week. And it's fine with me.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see Morgan's play. If it happens to be during class, I guess I won't throw a fit.
ReplyDeleteAgain... pretty sure it is on the 12th instead of the 5th. You guys be glad Helen isn't on here or you would have already confused her!
ReplyDeleteKristen, if it's too upsetting to miss some of class we'll all play "hotel" with you to calm you down
ReplyDeletewould she have baked?
ReplyDeleteCherry granola manatee bars
ReplyDeleteJudes, you know just how to soothe my worries. And you're right. It's nothin a good dose of "hotel" wouldn't cure.
ReplyDeleteMiss class! Oh how could we? What I am interested in is supporting the completion of your papers and hearing about your independent study. I don't want to miss Morgan's play. Of course I know how much you all want to be in our traditional class!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a paper question. If I am putting title pages or introductions between my pages, how do I do that and not have them page numbered?
ReplyDeleteI made it! Pat and I were on the wrong one--the one Danna accessed earlier! Then my computer froze and I had to start again. Just read comments. Caught up. Where's the agenda?
ReplyDeleteI have a question about how to present my independent study stuff-it was a Bible study and I don't want to be preachy
ReplyDeletePat's still working on her account.
ReplyDeletedon't blame me for being on the wrong page
ReplyDeleteI have good news!
ReplyDeleteSo far, the agenda is Saturday debrief, Morgan's May 12 play, and papers.
ReplyDeleteAm simultaneously blogging, working on paper, and eating a whole rotisserie chicken
ReplyDeleteI just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico. And, Marie sent me my Term 2 response which was lovely.
ReplyDeleteJudy, you will need to bring a pulpit( is that how you spell it?) to class.
ReplyDeletelife doesn't get much better than that
ReplyDeleteI wonder if my response will be addressed to Karen?
ReplyDeleteI thought Saturday went well...am so glad it's over...wished more people would have heard our presentations...we clean up well
ReplyDeletewe're just naturally awsome
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have a fold up pulpit? How about Sheila's easel?
ReplyDeleteI wish there was an opportunity for us to see what other presentations were going on. I liked it better when there were sessions to choose from.
ReplyDeleteI give Saturday 2 thumbs up but was disturbed that People magazine didn't show up for the presentation.
ReplyDeleteor the New Yorker
ReplyDeleteI left my easel at East Bay, I fear it is gone forever.
ReplyDeleteI have it.
ReplyDeleteIt was rescued by Jen...so was your poster
ReplyDeleteDon't worry Sheila. We've got your back!
ReplyDeleteSheila, you had mentioned before that you maybe have a sample title page? Is that possible to get my hands on so I know I'm setting it up correctly? Also, does it matter where our Term I and II responses are? Should they be in the beginning or end?
ReplyDeleteI froze again. Pat's still having trouble. It won't accept her account even though she's reset it a couple of times. I'm just glad Saturday is over. How long is the play?
ReplyDeleteYou are wonderful for looking after me! God knows someone has to!
ReplyDeleteI will put it on here.
I think your term 1 and 2 responses are suppose to go in the beginning
ReplyDeleteWe have to include the term 1 and 2 resposes from Marie?
ReplyDeleteyep....
ReplyDeleteJen G, you need to come join me at Starbucks. My internet's not working either and I feel like a looser all alone. I look like I'm in a chat room or something.
ReplyDeleteWhoooaah there...Did I leave the room and get nominated to "look after Shiela"? Damn it. I knew I should never leave the room again.
ReplyDeleteHow nice that the term II responses are coming in--except for mine!
ReplyDeleteJudes, where have you been?!
ReplyDeletemy poor little Krissypoo
ReplyDeleteone day you'll learn
ReplyDeletehave you been trying to call me?
ReplyDeleteKristin--my internet is actually working fine; it's this web page. I've had to restart twice. I'm sick as a dog and staying in bed, otherwise I'd come join you. You should call Pat and tell her to come there. She's not having success!
ReplyDeleteNo honey, I was just making a reference to your question about including our responses from Marie.

ReplyDeleteDo you want you come over? Nevermind...I have TB (not really) and am still coughing up a storm...don't want baby Spangles to get sick in mommy's tummy
ReplyDeleteAlso Sheila, Chris said that he thought there were some changes to what the master Marie wanted on the front? compared to what you previously told us. Is this true?
ReplyDeleteOh, I was being all loving and compassionate and you were busy slandering me...no more iced cappafraps for you
ReplyDeleteChris is here now - I was on the other blog for a while - it took me a while to realize I was alone
ReplyDeleteJude--maybe you have Swine flu!
ReplyDeleteI think that's a country western song
ReplyDeleteJenn G--
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean by "master on the front"?
Chris, how can you put title pages in the body of your paper and nor have them page numbered?
ReplyDeleteThere is a header that Marie wants when you send her your paper. i will go out to the car and get it. Don't mind that I have not been able to walk for two days, anything for my babies!!
ReplyDeleteI surely hope not although based on my student population I wouldn't be surprised...maybe I contracted it during the bite incident of 2009
ReplyDeleteGreat question! I was wondering the same.
ReplyDeleteBabies!???
ReplyDeleteOh crap, does that mean all of my issues are genetic?
Thanks a lot Sheila.
Jen D...can you just type them separately and stick them in where needed?
ReplyDeletejude when is your book coming out
ReplyDeletethat's what she said
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same as Judes. I'll probably just do that for simplicity sake.
ReplyDeleteexcept if we are send it to Marie electronically. That wouldn't work then.
ReplyDeleteJudy, I'm concerned for when we have to send them to Marie and have the final copy on a disc, it won't be a complete paper then.
ReplyDeleteMy reference to Master was for Marie! The front meaning the cover of the paper. My mind is fried. I think Jude wiped her bite germs all over me. Yes, I want to know about the numbered pages as well. Keep asking Jen and we might find out!
ReplyDeleteIt would automatically number them when you try to insert them, i'm pretty sure.
ReplyDeleteHow do you not number them?
ReplyDeleteDo you think Marie would notice if I numbered with the following system?
ReplyDelete1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 47, 48, 49 ??
oops, she wrote it on the bottom of my program and it is not in my car. I will email her tomorrow and get it. It's so she can keep track of your paper when you email it to her. I am sorry.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Chris has an answer to our numbering?
ReplyDeleteHello Everyone! Beautiful day...despite my migraine. What is new?
ReplyDeletedoes it really matter
ReplyDeleteMaybe in formatting, you could format page, then unformat, then reformat?, etc?
ReplyDeleteFor you Jess, she would overlook it.
ReplyDeleteDanna--did you forget how anal we are?
ReplyDeleteJennifer - once you have the paper completed - go to header and footer and put the required info in the header (Last name & Page number) then go to document & under the layout tab - you can select different 1st page header - no header will appear on page 1
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure on the page numbering thing. I haven't messed with it yet. I'll let you know if I figure something out.
ReplyDeleteI'm finally here
ReplyDeleteKeep your title pages separate from the body of your paper and insert them after the numbering. Right now, I am more concerned about the content of your work.
ReplyDeleteYou're an hour late! That's what's new!
ReplyDelete(I'm just kidding Hel. I had more pea soup tonight. It's the pea soup talking.)
I'm so confused electronically...what will Marie do if it's wrong? I didn't think about the disc thingy
ReplyDeleteYeah Pat! You will probably have to keep hitting refresh when you are not talking alot!
ReplyDeleteI can show everyone at next class if needed - you have different headers on the even and odd pages as well
ReplyDeletejude we love you
ReplyDeleteIt took forever to get the account and password.
ReplyDeleteIs Chris going to help us set up our papers?
I'll try that chris, would you do the same thing for pages inside the paper you do not want #.
ReplyDeleteWhat if the header pages had numbers? Is it a big deal? Maybe it is, I just tend not to worry about stuff. Maybe I should be more professional.
ReplyDeleteyes but it depends on what they are and how you are formatting them
ReplyDeleteI think a class lesson would be beneficial.
ReplyDeleteWhere's refresh?
ReplyDeleteKris, you and I will be sent to paper purgatory
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a recycling sign. Mine is blue!
ReplyDeleteputting headers on and page numbers can be done in a few minutes - don't worry about that now - get the paper set up first
ReplyDeletePatsy...I love you
ReplyDeleteTop left. It's that curly arrow to the left of your address bar. You won't get this message until you find that button.
ReplyDeleteOr unless you post a comment!
ReplyDeletePat, Refresh on my computer is F5. Go to the view section on your toolbar and it should tell you what refresh is.
ReplyDeleteGood Conversation.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a good recipe for us?
ReplyDeleteI agree with the class lesson, also when the time comes maybe we could go in on getting our papers bound together.
ReplyDeleteHow about a nice blogging bisque?
ReplyDeleteI think we need to find out how much time needs to be allotted to getting them bound and where?
ReplyDeleteI agree - we should all have the format similar to each other - it will make it easier for Marie - I can give a lesson next class with a handout
ReplyDeleteDo I have to post a comment or push refresh to see the continuing conversation? That is annoying.
ReplyDeletePats...that sounds good...anything we can do together is better (I think that's an ancient saying)
ReplyDeleteYes dear Helen! It's just a click away!
ReplyDeleteI'm having personal issues. Cigarette smoke and a very full bladder. (TMI) I don't know how much longer I can take sitting here.
ReplyDeleteThat would be so helpful - I love you too, Judy
ReplyDeleteremember there is safety in numbers
ReplyDeleteWe have to get our papers back first...
ReplyDeletePatsy...We'll get through this
ReplyDeleteSure, Chris...A lesson about numbering and format?
ReplyDeleteHow about wrapping text around pictures? I wouldn't mind a refresher course.
kristin, you should really go if you need to. think of that little girl
ReplyDeleteHey I got the refreshing down! (yes, it's annoying)
ReplyDeleteAnd maybe even our term II responses!
ReplyDeleteHow about what your paper says, or do I repeat myself?
ReplyDeletethat can be done - you can wrap text around pictures by going to the format menu for that particular picture - it can be shown in class in a few minutes as well
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean?
ReplyDeleteThanks Chris for offering to help...did you see the comments about Morgan's play? sheila said we could have class at your school and go to the play!!
ReplyDeleteOk Sheila, what are you getting at?
ReplyDeleteDoes what our paper say count? Wow, there were some good papers that I saw on Saturday. That was nice..wide variety.
ReplyDeleteSheila, From my term II paper, you had said to only use two different fonts. I used three. Is it ok to do a handwriting font for journal entries or should I just italicize it?
ReplyDeletewhat do you mean "what your paper says"
ReplyDeleteToo bad, we can't skype - I like seeing everyone
ReplyDeleteHey Sheila...
ReplyDeleteHow many pages does it need to be? :-)
yes..how do you want journal entries?
ReplyDeleteSkyping is nice cause we don't have to refresh.
ReplyDeletetechnically, the paper should be one font - all entries, quotes, etc are handled differently depending on the MLA, APA atyle
ReplyDeleteMy chicken is finished...I'm moving on to the next course
ReplyDeleteI like the journal entries having a different font - it makes them look more authenic.
ReplyDeleteSheila, I think it's hard to discuss what our paper says unless you have some guiding questions!
ReplyDeleteis there a preferred font for them?
ReplyDeleteJen - that's true - I think it is hard to discuss on here - I hate refreshing
ReplyDeletePat--I'm so proud of you for not giving up! I know it's frustrating!
ReplyDeleteOK
ReplyDeleteHow are you handling the analysis of your data? Are you communicating what you have learned, how you learned it, and what message it has for other teachers?
Pat I am with you. I don't remeber this refreshing part at all..crazy. There is no continuity.
ReplyDeleteThanks, You can't give up
ReplyDeletefont should be easy to read and reduce eye fatigue - times roman, courier, or a serif type font - 12 point in size
ReplyDeleteDanna must complete 300 pages (she has worked to eliminate a few) the rest of you must take as many pages as it takes to tell your story.
ReplyDeleteData--I'm getting very specific with percentages and putting it into some chart (undecided which kind)to show progress.
ReplyDeleteHelen, there is no continuity? This should be a cinch for you to follow!
ReplyDeleteSheila, I feel that some of my information is redundent, so I am trying to pick out what is most informative. I don't know if its enough.
ReplyDeletejenn use one that is easy to read - it can be many different forms
ReplyDeleteIf Danna has 300 pages I shall have 301. It is my life's goal to one-up her.
ReplyDeleteYou can check redundancy by having others read your work. We should do a lot of this in the next few weeks.
ReplyDeletethanks sheila, i'm glad to hear i've knocked off a few pages. thanks for the support, you're the best
ReplyDeleteChris--any suggestions? I was thinking of either using a bar graph or a pie chart?
ReplyDeleteWhen you put your data into charts/tables, Marie made a suggestion to really walk your reader through it as if they cannot read the table for yourself. She told me not to assume the reader would understand. Make it very clear.
ReplyDeleteSheila, my data is in checklist form (determining the likelihood of Asperger's) I don't plan on graphing it...I'm analyzing it and trying techniques to work with the boys whether or not they are diagnosed
ReplyDeleteJen Gula-use the most obvious chart or whatever, to display your data. More emphasis on the analysis and less on the data-up to a point.
ReplyDeleteI will gladly read completed or almost completed papers on Tuesday! Anyone done? Claire?
ReplyDeleteI like pie charts the best but bar graphs work well for some types of data - you can put the info in Excel and then create two charts, then pick the best one
ReplyDeleteJude, no need to graph, you can present the check list and put the data in the body of your writing.
ReplyDelete
